Friday 22nd November sees the launch of Mullum de Mambo No 1 featuring Kwasi Bruni bring their deep Afro-Cuban dance groove back to the Mullumbimby Ex Services Club Bandroom.
Kwasi Bruni is an Afro-Cuban big band project led by bassist Barry Hill and Colombian Ex Pat Pianist Camilo Losada.
Barry met Camilo at a BBQ jam session in 2021 and had an instant musical connection. Both had Colombian family connections and had grown up listening to salsa and Afro-Cuban
music. Both were keen to put a band together.
Fast forward three years, and Kwasi Bruni is now a 10 (sometimes 12!) piece big band featuring some of the north coast’s finest percussionists and wind players.
Expect a night of high Energy Dance music, salsa son and mambo, paying homage to the music of Cachao Lopez, and the other great latin jazz and salsa big bandleaders of the 60s and 70s.
Special Guest Dj on the night will be DJ Mex’shika
Hailing from Mexico City with over 20 years as a a vocalist and Dj, Yolanda Santiago, aka DJ Mex’shika, is the vibrant host of “Radio Latina” on Byron Bay FM 99.9. Dj Mex’shika will be playing a diverse set of music from Spain and Latin America….. connecting her listeners to the rhythm and pulse of la musica latina.
