As a Delta blues specialist, he channels the raw soul of legends like Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, and Skip James, while also showcasing incredible fingerstyle guitar work inspired by Tommy Emmanuel.

Scott is facing one of the biggest challenges of his life and urgently needs a double lung transplant. Scott was diagnosed with a respiratory illness in 2021, which has progressed to pulmonary fibrosis in 2024, which is a terminal disease. Scott needs constant pulmonary rehabilitation to keep him well enough to have a transplant and regular visits to Brisbane to meet with the transplant team. At the moment his lung capacity is at 40%.

Scott’s treatment is at Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, the purpose of this fundraiser is to raise money for Scott and his family to travel to Brisbane and to relocate in Brisbane following the transplant, also to meet ongoing medical expenses and living costs. This treatment will take Scott away from his family, community and will face significant financial pressure as Scott was the main income earner in this family and is no longer able to work, putting a massive strain on his family. In addition, he will need a full-time carer soon, which means his wife Terese will no longer be able to work either.

Uncle Scotty is an Aboriginal Elder from Wiradjuri Country and one of the most community minded people we have. Uncle Scotty has resided in the Byron Shire for 40 years and has lived in Mullumbimby for 35 of those years. Scott has worked at Mullumbimby Highschool since 2006, as an Aboriginal Education Officer and also working with special education. Over this time, Uncle has co-ordinated the Deadly Dancers and Muggi Jarjums, which include aboriginal students from Mullum High and the surrounding primary schools to develop their interest in the culture, traditions, and lore of the Bundjalung Nation. Uncle Scotty has won many Byron Shire awards over the years – Aboriginal Educator of the year and Community Leader, Scott also won an Educational Award for Mullumbimby High for the programs he ran at local schools. Uncle Scotty has also volunteered for the Mullumbimby community, painting and attending events in the local community and has spent decades sharing his wisdom, advocating for students, and empowering local aboriginal youth through identity and education and has had a lasting impact on all that know him. Uncle Scotty played for the Brunswick Valley Soccer team for 11 years, played Oz-tag in Mullumbimby and also coached the Brunswick Valley U14 AFL to victory. Scott and his wife Terese have raised 7 boys in Mullumbimby and have done high needs fostering for aboriginal children over the last 20 years.

Your attendance at the fundraiser or donation will give Uncle and his family the chance to breath a bit easier, concentrate on getting better and returning to aboriginal education, guiding, and inspiring the next generation of local Aboriginal students.

💖 About Neil
Neil is one of those rare souls who radiates generosity, kindness, and a deep commitment to his community. Over the years, he’s made a lasting impact in the Northern Rivers – working with local primary schools, Spaghetti Circus, and holding key community roles at major festivals like Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, and Bluesfest, where he contributed for over 15 years. He’s also supported countless local creatives and small businesses with his web skills, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a community event he wasn’t part of.
Sadly, Neil has recently been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer, requiring immediate and ongoing treatment in Melbourne through the end of the year. This sudden relocation has not only meant the loss of local income, but also the financial strain of big-city living during an already difficult time.

Welcome to the Final meeting of the CWA!

The (dis)organisation everyone had been waiting for, so we built together… The Country Witches Association!

Tired of waiting for change, creative women around the world are getting ready to stir the political pot – bringing comedy and music to the boil, to facilitate dangerous dialogues and uncomfortable collaborations!

Irish troubadour and Country witch founding member Áine Tyrrell says: ‘If you’re not doing something the church would have burnt you for 400 years ago then you’re just not witching properly…or enough…or at all!’

Comedian and co-founder Mandy Nolan believes its time for a movement for busy women who love tea but can’t be bothered baking cakes.

‘As performers we get a bit tired of sticking to the rules, so the idea of the CWA is to unleash our more deviant selves. This is a creative space to navigate topics at a deeper level than you’d do in a traditional pub format. Everyone in the entertainment industry has to play it safe but we don’t want to. Playing it safe is boring. And it just won’t bring change. We really want to stir the pot on stage and in the audience.’

The CWA Meeting format invites the audience to participate by becoming members and suggesting topics to be discussed on the Agenda by Mandy and Áine.

Stoner Comedy Club is coming to the Mullimbimby R.S.L May 6th, bringing the best of Mardigrass comedy straight to the Shire! Get ready for a dank evening of high-jinx and icky sticky laughs. If you’ve ever copped cotton mouth so severely that you’ve considered drinking the bong water, this is the show for you.

Featuring Sydney reefer ranger Chris Night and mountain dwelling Marty Bright, alongside local weed whackers, Matty B, Mark Boulton and Slappy Tee, the Stoner Comedy Club promises to be a night of red eyed hilarity for blazers, potheads, ganga mummas and doobie daddies. The RSL bistro will be serving up feeds to keep the munchies at bay while we keep you blazed and amused.

Sunday 27th April sees the return of Mullum de Mambo No 4 featuring Kwasi Bruni bring their deep Afro-Cuban dance groove back to the Mullumbimby Ex Services Club Bandroom.

Kwasi Bruni is an Afro-Cuban big band project led by bassist Barry Hill and Colombian Ex Pat Pianist Camilo Losada.

Barry met Camilo at a BBQ jam session in 2021 and had an instant musical connection. Both had Colombian family connections and had grown up listening to salsa and Afro-Cuban
music. Both were keen to put a band together.

Fast forward three years, and Kwasi Bruni is now a 10 (sometimes 12!) piece big band featuring some of the north coast’s finest percussionists and wind players.

Expect a night of high Energy Dance music, salsa son and mambo, paying homage to the music of Cachao Lopez, and the other great Latin jazz and salsa big bandleaders of the 60s and 70s.

Special Guest DJ Mex’ Shika (Bay FM Radio Latina).

A night not to be missed.
